At Empowerment Construction & Development (ECD), we provide Assistive Technology (AT) evaluations and home accessibility solutions that promote independence, safety, and dignity for individuals with disabilities.
What Is Assistive Technology?
Assistive Technology (AT) refers to adaptive and rehabilitative devices, tools, or software designed to help individuals increase, maintain, or improve their functional abilities. AT can range from low-tech items like grab bars and magnifiers to high-tech communication systems, mobility aids, and environmental control devices.
Our licensed Professionals and Therapists conduct functional AT evaluations to determine the best devices and supports for each individual’s needs — ensuring all recommendations align with Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD) and Managed Care Organization (MCO) standards.
Who We Serve?
ECD is an approved provider under both DDD and New Jersey MCOs, supporting adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (ID/DD) and seniors aging in place. We partner closely with Support Coordinators, families, and caregivers to identify appropriate devices and environmental modifications that remove barriers and promote independence.

- Assistive Technology Evaluations (conducted by licensed professionals)
- Environmental Modifications (bathroom, kitchen, ramps, doorway widening, etc.)
- Environmental Control Systems (smart home automation, telephones, TVs, lighting, and adaptive tech)

How to Begin:
If you or your loved one is enrolled with the New Jersey Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD), speak with your Support Coordinator about your independence goals and potential accessibility barriers. Your Support Coordinator can submit a referral to Empowerment Construction & Development through iRecord to initiate the evaluation process.

Environmental Modifications
Empowerment Construction & Development (ECD) provides Environmental Modifications (EMODs) that enhance accessibility, safety, and independence for individuals with disabilities and seniors. Our licensed team evaluates, designs, and constructs customized home adaptations that align with Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD) and Managed Care Organization (MCO) standards.
Common modifications include ramps, grab bars, roll-in showers, widened doorways, accessible kitchens and bathrooms, stair lifts, and reinforced walls for adaptive equipment.
As a full-service construction firm, we manage the entire process—from evaluation and architectural drawings to permitting and installation—ensuring every project meets regulatory, clinical, and quality standards.
